Happy International Women’s Day to all our members and readers. As we celebrate women and our accomplishments around the world, let us remember to be a positive influence on the people around us. We, as young girls and women should strive to be our very best at all times. We never know who might be inspired by our way of life.
WORDS ON MARBLE
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
Maya Angelou
“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”
As we prepare for the 2020 HAFSA GIRLS CLUB SUMMER CAMP, we
take a moment to remember the great memories of the 2019 SUMMER CAMP.
We had many amazing girls that participated in our free six
weeks camp. New friendships were forged, bonds created, and many life lessons
learnt.
Our goofy science
projects were amazing. We made bath bombs, learnt how to inflate balloons with
recycled plastic bottles. We used liquid solutions to inflate and maintain air
in balloons, and also made beautiful slimes amongst many others.
Team Bonding
Reading the Quran
Our arts and crafts were fantastic. The girls made paper
flowers, soft toys from yarn, origami, karaoke and other cool activities. Every
day, we read and memorized the Holy Quran (Suratul Hujurat) and some Hadiths;
we discussed social, moral and intellectual issues like personal hygiene,
bullying, confidence building, total trust in God, overcoming peer pressure
amongst many others.
Team bonding
We engaged in many team bonding activities, Zumba dance with
instructor, field trips to the cinema, indoor swimming, ice skating and funny
but educative trivia questions. For example,
QUESTION In South Dakota, it is illegal to fall
and sleep where?
ANSWER In
a cheese factory.
QUESTIONWhat
ailment disturbs a fruit fly?
ANSWER Constipation.
QUESTIONIn
California, you cannot legally buy a mousetrap without having a what?
ANSWER Hunting
license
Above all, the girls were in a safe and positive
environment, where they learnt new things and ideas, made friends and lifetime
memories. Special thanks to Light Upon Light, Goza Dance Fitness and all the families
and friends; the dads, grandmothers, mothers, aunts and volunteers that
supported with their time, money and sweat. You are the real MVPS.
