International Women’s Day

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Happy International Women’s Day to all our members and readers. As we celebrate women and our accomplishments around the world, let us remember to be a positive influence on the people around us. We, as young girls and women should strive to be our very best at all times. We never know who might be inspired by our way of life.

WORDS ON MARBLE

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

Maya Angelou

“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”

Summer Camp 2019 Recap!

As we prepare for the 2020 HAFSA GIRLS CLUB SUMMER CAMP, we take a moment to remember the great memories of the 2019 SUMMER CAMP.

We had many amazing girls that participated in our free six weeks camp. New friendships were forged, bonds created, and many life lessons learnt.

Our goofy science projects were amazing. We made bath bombs, learnt how to inflate balloons with recycled plastic bottles. We used liquid solutions to inflate and maintain air in balloons, and also made beautiful slimes amongst many others.

Our arts and crafts were fantastic. The girls made paper flowers, soft toys from yarn, origami, karaoke and other cool activities. Every day, we read and memorized the Holy Quran (Suratul Hujurat) and some Hadiths; we discussed social, moral and intellectual issues like personal hygiene, bullying, confidence building, total trust in God, overcoming peer pressure amongst many others.

Team bonding

We engaged in many team bonding activities, Zumba dance with instructor, field trips to the cinema, indoor swimming, ice skating and funny but educative trivia questions. For example,

QUESTION          In South Dakota, it is illegal to fall and sleep where?

ANSWER              In a cheese factory.

QUESTION          What ailment disturbs a fruit fly?

ANSWER              Constipation.

QUESTION          In California, you cannot legally buy a mousetrap without having a what?

ANSWER              Hunting license

Above all, the girls were in a safe and positive environment, where they learnt new things and ideas, made friends and lifetime memories. Special thanks to Light Upon Light, Goza Dance Fitness and all the families and friends; the dads, grandmothers, mothers, aunts and volunteers that supported with their time, money and sweat. Greatness within you

At HAFSA Girls club, we engage in numerous fun and educative activities. We try to ensure that the girls are armed with the right tools to navigate life. We encourage them to look within and see how they can improve on themselves. They often times have a pictorial interpretation for subjects treated.

In the last few weeks, the girls talked about what it means to have greatness within you. Many stories were shared about great people who made it against all odds. Stories of great minds like Oprah Winfrey, Les Brown and Olympia LePoint were shared with the girls. They discovered that everyone could be great if only they would look within, and never give up.

Here are some beautiful interpretations by some of the girls;

“Don’t complain about what you don’t have. Use what you’ve got. To do less than your best is a sin. Every single one of us has the power for greatness, because greatness is determined by service-to yourself and to others”.

“I don’t know what you are up against, I don’t know what you’re facing. But here’s what I do know: You’ve got greatness in you, and I know its possible that you can live your dream”.

POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS

Welcome to our world! Our children should be taught to make positive statements about themselves, what they want and who they want to become. Since our belief system is built early in life, Positive affirmations would help to lay the foundation for a healthy set of beliefs which will help anyone from within. Positive affirmations create positive children. Practice the following affirmations daily, preferably morning, night and anytime in between.

I am blessed                                       I am strong

I am unique                                        There is only one of me

I love my family                                 I love myself

I accept myself                                 I am worthy

I am beautiful                                    I am confident

I believe in myself                           I am important
